A review
Last Sunday I and my friend went to the cinema too see a well-known film “Romeo and Juliet”, which is based on William Shakespeare’s book. Directed by Franco Zeffirelli, the film stars Olivia Hussay and Leonard Whiting. The romantic story of Romeo and Juliet is set in a magnificent city of Verona in Italy.
The Montagues and Capulets are two feuding families whose children meet at the ball and fall in love at first sight. However, their love is constantly put to the test and they have to face up many setbacks as their families do not accept that relationship.
Zeffirelli creates a stunning adaptation with more action and humour than has ever been seen before. This film is one of the more realistic interpretations of William Shakespeare’s tragedies. The scriptwriter has done a masterful piece of work! It is a classic of its kind. You can see impressive scenery, masterful photos made by Oscar winner Pasquale De Santis and hear unmatched music by Nino Rota.
I can thoroughly recommend this film. Zeffirelli’s version of this tragedy plays to both a younger and older audience. Everyone can find something that attracts their attention. You witness great devotion, romantic love, revenge and a lot of splendid humour. The action is captivating and the cast excellently play their roles.
