Why do people lie?

There are as many reasons as there are people as to why people lie, though there are a few common causes. One of them is the will to not hurt someone’s feelings and simply telling them a nice word when being asked for a comment, even when they feel differently on the inside. Another popular reason is to protect oneself from taking responsibility for performed actions and an attempt to escape punishment.
