How can we cope with traffic problems in big cities?

In my opinion the best way to reduce traffic jams in cities is improving public transport. A greater number of fast buses and trams would certainly encourage people to leave their cars at home and choose to use public transport to get to work or school,especially that it would be much faster. The other thing would be building more bicycle routes, because now it can sometimes be dangerous to go anywhere by bike. Better, wider roads would also be not too bad of an idea.
