London is situated in the southeastern part of England. It was founded as the centre of communication by the Romans in 43 AD. At first it was just a little village on the Thames, but with the passage of time it became the biggest European city and the cultural centre famous for  the works of William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe.

There are lots of different attractions and monuments to admire in this wonderful place. The Palace of Westminster was built after the fire in 1834.  There are two chambers in the buliding: The House of Commons and the House of Lords. On the  corner close to Westminster Bridge you can see Big Ben- the beautiful clock chiming hours. Opposite the clock there’s the London Eye-the tallest observation wheel in the world, which earned the place in the Guiness Book. Lots of tourists feel like admiring the panorama from the wheel, so they wait in long queues to purchase quite expensive tickets.

Buckingham Palace  is the Queen’s official residence, surrounded by plenty of policemen on horses and guardsmen.The popular Changing of the Guard takes place in its forecourt and lasts about half an hour.

If you enjoy going to cinemas or theatres, you ought to go to Picaddily Circus. There are also many banks and different companies. It’s located at the bottom of Regent Street and everybody associates it with illuminated signs and the statue of Eros.

The Tower of London is the place which attracts people interested in history. It’s a  museum, but in the past  it was a prison famous for such prisoners as Guy Fawkes, Sir Thomas More, Ann Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey.

If you want to relax after sightseeing, just go to the Hyde Park. It offers horse riding, cycling, tennis and other recreational activities.

There are lots of things to see  in London, so every tourist is bound to fall in love with it at  first sight.
