Listen carefully and answer the questions below.
My name is John Smith and I’m a policeman. During today’s meeting I am going to give you a few tips on how to behave when someone breaks into your house.
Burglary is a situation that can happen to any of us. It can not be predicted and it doesn’t really matter whether you are rich or not. What’s more – if you are at home during this situation, things can become even more dramatic. First of all, do not argue with the burglar and follow their instructions. Otherwise, they may use violence. Be calm, because nervous moves can upset the attacker. Avoid eye contact, because the attacker can feel threatened, knowing that you could recognize them later. Instead, try to remember all details and characteristic features that could make it easier for the police to catch the unwanted guest.
Pretending to be a hero is a natural reaction. But this is not a good idea, because a thief can have a gun and decide to use it. After the incident contact the police as soon as possible.
